la casa del abuelo. madrid, spain

This blog post was posted on June 26, 2024. At the writing of this blog post I have visited Spain four times. Three out of those four trips were taken during the last week in June/first week in July. In honor of this coincidence I am posting this today.

La Casa del Abuelo has four locations in Madrid. Three of those locations are within eight nine feet of each other.

The address of my go to location is:

C. de la Victoria, 12, Centro, 28012 Madrid, Spain

When eating in Spain the two most important questions are:

Question 1:

¿Cuál es el menú del día?

What is the menu of the day?

The menu of the Day is a three course meal. An appetizer, main dish, and dessert. Generally offered during lunchtime this a great way of getting variety of food on a budget.

Question 2:

¿Cuál es la especialidad de la casa?

What is the speciality of the house?

The speciality of the house is not only a point of pride but some might say the only way to judge a restaurant in Spain. This option is always worth considering especially if you’re in a larger group. Even if that dish is not usually in your wheelhouse, or if you’ve never tried the dish before.

When you walk into La Casa del Abuelo you will clearly see and smell the speciality of the house is garlic shrimp. Make sure to ask for extra bread for dipping in the garlic and oil.

This location is standing room only at the bar or hightop tables with oily napkins on floor. That’s part of the charm.
